TNA has officially added a Knockouts Title match to the card for Sacrifice, in which champ Madison Rayne will defend her title against Angelina Love.

Angelina won a shot at the title two weeks ago when she won a Fatal Four-Way match for the number one contendership.

Until now, the match had not been confirmed for the Pay-Per-View.

Sacrifice takes place April 27th on Pay-Per-View.

Who do you think will win the match?

Diva Dirt presents live coverage of SHINE 18, airing tonight on iPPV.

The main event sees Ivelisse defend her SHINE Championship against Saraya Knight, while plum ties of the undercard include SHINE Tag Team Champions Leva Bates and Mia Yim putting their titles on the line against the Antipodean duo of Madison Eagles and Evie, while Jessicka Havok and Allysin Kay continue their feud in an Ybor City Street Fight.

SHINE 18 comes to us live from the Orpheum in Ybor City, Florida at 9pm ET (2am GMT). To order the event, click here.

Live results will appear below.

  • Kellie Skater defeated Kay Lee Ray, Justine Silver and Kimberly in a four-way match. This was a really enjoyable, frenetic bout to start of proceedings, with some fun spots throughout. Justine Silver looked great on her SHINE debut. Skater got the win with an International Incident on Silver.

After the match, Skater gets the microphone and calls out Lexie Fyfe. She says that due to Madison Eagles’ injury she should replace her as Evie’s tag team partner later tonight, and Fyfe accepts.

  • Tracy Taylor defeated Amber O’Neal. Su Yung accompanied Taylor at ringside. This was another great match, with both women showing plenty of aggression in their offense. Taylor won the match with a Soul Food.
  • Shanna defeated La Rosa Negra. The crowd are really into the show tonight, which is surprising because the Orpheum usually seems dead, at least to me as an iPPV viewer. It’s helping the matches shedloads too, and this was a corker, starting off high-paced and continuing in that vein, culminating in a host of near-falls and a Dragon Suplex from Shanna to Rosa for the win. Superb match.
  • Su Yung defeated Rhia O’Reilly. This didn’t start off too well but gradually descended into a very good match. About halfway throught, Saraya Knight came out at ringside, paying close attention to both women. After Yung made O’Reilly tap out to Yellow Fever, Saraya attacked Yung, and she and O’Reilly dragged Yung to the back.
  • Leva Bates and Mia Yim defeat Evie and Kellie Skater to retain the SHINE Tag Team Championships. The only word that can describe that match is “kick-tastic”, particularly the parts involving Yim and Evie. An awesome match, which ended with a Superhero Kick to Evie by Leva, followed by a package piledriver from Yim.
  • Amazing Kong defeated Nikki Storm. Storm played her character to a tee as usual, being a cowardly and impertinent heel, going after Kong’s hair and trying to grab sneaky advantages. However, Kong’s sheer brute strength was too much, and Storm fell victim to the Implant Buster and a three-count reasonably early on. A good match, but I can’t help but feel Storm was booked a bit too weakly.
  • Serena Deeb defeated Mercedes Martinez. Another great match, with strikes galore. Martinez had the match in the bag numerous times but for Deeb’s Valkyrie comrade April Hunter, who put Deeb’s foot on the ropes after a rope-hung neckbreaker from Martinez and dragged the referee out of the ring before Martinez could finish pinning Deeb following the Fisherman Buster. In the end, Deeb hit a spear on a distracted Martinez, and Hunter moved Martinez’s foot off the ropes allowing the three-count to stand.
  • Jessicka Havok and Allysin Kay’s Ybor City Street Fight ends in a no contest(?). Well this was odd. The match itself was brutal, with both women going all over the place, including outside on the street, and taking some sickening bumps. It ended abruptly, however, when Havok was hit by a car in the car park, which Allysin Kay then got in the passenger seat of and drove off. I suppose that’s a no contest, and that this feud is far from over yet.
  • Ivelisse defeated Saraya Knight to retain the SHINE Championship. This was shorter than you’d expect from a main event title match, but achieved more than enough in that time. With plenty of stiff strikes and Saraya being the brilliant heel she always is, this was an excellent match. Ivelisse picked up the win with a Disdain.

After the match, Valkyrie appear and attack Ivelisse. They’re accompanied by Su Yung, wearing different, darker attire than usual and with a glazed look on her face. Serena Deeb tells Ivelisse that she will bring the SHINE Championship back to the new Valkyrie, and looks around at the faces standing in the ring as the show fades out.

That’s all for tonight! Stay tuned for a full review!

April 19th, 2009 | In Six Sides of Steel at Lockdown 2009, Knockouts Champion Awesome Kong took on both Angelina Love and Taylor Wilde inside the cage, putting her 12-month title reign on the line. Alliances were built, broken and rebuilt throughout the course of the match, but it was some accidental aid from Kong that allowed Angelina to pin Taylor and win the Knockouts Title. Kong went postal, rendering the term “rage in the cage” into something quite literal.

SmackDown Redux (April 18th, 2014): Paige Claims Another Victim

Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s SmackDown Redux! Two weeks ago, NXT standout Paige made history when she toppled AJ Lee in an impromptu match and won the WWE Divas Championship. Looking to prove that her victory wasn’t a fluke, Paige takes on Aksana in non-title action. Can the Anti-Diva add another feather to her cap by taking out the Lithuanian beauty? Check out the match below:

Paige is out to the ring first to a decent pop from the crowd. Once she enters the ring, we’re treated to a video package introducing Paige and chronicling her title win. We even get a vignette from the #1 contender, Tamina Snuka.

After a commercial break, Aksana gets on the mic and says that all the Divas are jealous of Paige and her time as champion is running out. Before Paige can retort, Aksana is all over her, but the official breaks them apart and signals for the bell.

Aksana gets the jump on Paige once again, this time with a kick to the gut and a snap suplex. Aksana stays on her with a waistlock, but Paige back her into the corner and lets loose a few vicious elbows, followed by a flurry of knee strikes on the apron. Aksana rolls outside, looking to escape Paige’s offense, and nails the champion with a flying clothesline. With the advantage in hand, Aksana rolls her opponent back in the ring, and drills her with a spinebuster.

Instead of going for the pin, Aksana proceeds to smash Paige’s face into the canvas, and drops a few rubies  elbows for good measure, before going for the pin. Paige kicks out at one, much to the chagrin of everyone’s favorite Lithuanian. Aksana opts to wear out the champion with a submission, but Paige manages to fight her way out before being slammed back down to the mat.

With Paige out of sorts, Aksana taunts for a bit, before nailing her in the face with a stiff kick for another one count. Aksana whips Paige off the ropes, but both Divas have the same idea and they collide midair. Both Divas make it to a vertical base at the same time, and Aksana makes the mistake of slapping Paige across the face. Paige loses it, unleashing a flurry of offense, before locking in the Scorpion Crosslock to pick up the win.

Another excellent match from the new Divas Champion, in my opinion. I know when Paige was first signed, a lot of fans were worried that she would get watered down by WWE, but her matches against Alicia Fox and Aksana have been anything but.

This is most dynamic the Divas division has been in a long time, and the additions of NXT Divas like Paige, Emma and even Lana, have been embraced by the fans and it can only get better from here.

No offense to AJ, as she has done so much for the division in the past year, but after watching her run roughshod over the division, I’m so excited to see fresh matches for the championship. There are so many possibilities, and I can’t wait to see what unfolds.

We also got to see a bit of Emma and Layla when they were at ringside for Fandango and Santino Marella‘s match:

And, of course, Lana accompanied Alexander Rusev for his match against R-Truth:

Well, that’s it for this week, guys! Until next time!

On this day in history:

April 20th, 2000 | Chyna had warned Lita: one more screw up, and she would pay for it. Essa Rios‘s partnership with Eddie Guerrero was far from successful, thanks in large part to Lita’s misguided attempts to help them. When the pair teamed up to face the Dudley Boyz, Lita again made a mistake, accidentally taking Eddie out with a crossbody that lead to the team’s loss. Chyna was set to take out her frustration on Lita, but found herself cornered by the Dudleyz and their signature table. Saving herself, she tossed Lita to the wolves, allowing them to powerbomb her through the table.

SHINE 18 in Review: The Taming of the Su

$
0
0

Desperation drives people to extremes. Some will steal to put an end to their poverty, others will kill to end years of torment or jealousy, and a select few will let the forces of evil cloud their vision just to get a taste of the glory they feel they deserve.

On Friday night at SHINE 18, Su Yung did just that, turning to the dark side and finding herself in the clutches of not one, but two despicable entities of sin: the dastardly Saraya Knight and the ruthless stable Valkyrie, under new leadership in the shape of Serena Deeb.

Saraya was facing SHINE Champion Ivelisse in the main event, and being her usual angry self. The end to the match (which was aggressive and fun to watch, if a little short for a title match at just nine minutes) saw Ivelisse hit a vicious Vertigo Kick to retain her gold, only for Valkyrie to run in and attack their former comrade, accompanied by none other than Su Yung! Some babyfaces intervened to stop the carnage, including Yung’s tag partner Tracy Taylor, but Yung, at Saraya’s command, put an end to their friendship unceremoniously with a devastating neckbreaker. Valkyrie were too much for the reinforcements to handle, and as the dust cleared Serena took the microphone and sent an ominous message to Ivelisse: that the SHINE Championship was on its way back to the new Valkyrie. Saraya then beckoned Yung over to her with a wag of her finger and took her to the back, Yung obeying every order.

This shouts back to earlier on in the night, when Yung had fought Rhia O’Reilly in a highly enjoyable match that saw Saraya come out halfway through and pay close attention to both women, O’Reilly being something of a protégé of Knight’s. Following Yung’s victory with Yellow Fever, Saraya entered the ring and attacked Yung, and she and O’Reilly dragged her out of the ring.

Now, if you read these reviews regularly you’ll know I’m a big fan of Su Yung. I think she’s hugely talented and grossly underrated. If you’ve been watching the shows for a while you’ll also have noticed that Su has been in the opening match of EIGHT of the past eighteen SHINE events. That’s almost half. As of now nobody knows why or how she has found herself caught in Valkyrie and Saraya’s maelstrom of evil, but given how little she’s been able to achieve as a happy-go-lucky babyface, who can blame her for snapping and giving in to the darkness?

Valkyrie’s shenanigans didn’t end there. The penultimate match saw Allysin Kay and Jessicka Havok‘s bitter feud reach new heights in a chaotic Ybor City Street Fight. Taking the match all over the place, from ringside to the stage to out on the street, the pair threw everything at each other, taking some wince-worthy bumps in the process. However, as the match reached its crescendo in the venue car park, Havok was suddenly knocked over by a rather flash-looking car, which then drove off…with Allysin Kay inside! We’re assuming that’s a no-contest, but the far more pressing question that needs asking is who on earth was the driver? Su Yung? Taylor Made? Someone entirely different?

Elsewhere, Valkyrie leader Serena Deeb had her own battle to win as she took on Mercedes Martinez in what was undoubtedly the match of the night. Hitting each other with everything they had, the match twisted and turned, with April Hunter at ringside playing her role as Valkyrie’s enforcer splendidly, saving Serena from defeat on more than one occasion and taking Martinez’s foot off the rope to allow Deeb to get the pinfall following a spear. A superb match that gives a huge amount of momentum to Serena towards her inevitable SHINE Championship clash with Ivelisse.

Another standout tie of the show was the SHINE Tag Team Championship match between champions Leva Bates and Mia Yim and the makeshift team of Evie and Kellie Skater, who was taking the place of the injured Madison Eagles. As one would expect from such a match-up, there were more than one’s fair share of kicks throughout the match, particularly from Yim and Evie, though all four women were in fine striking form. It ended in scintillating fashion too, as Evie was hit with the double-team offense of a Superhero Kick from Leva right into a Package Piledriver from Mia allowing the Lucha Sisters to retain their titles.

Skater pulled double-duty on the show, also working (and winning) the show’s opening Four Way Freestyle match against Kay Lee Ray, Kimberly and SHINE debutante Justine Silver. Newcomer Silver put in a fine performance, wrestling the majority of the match and turning several heads in the process, Kay Lee Ray and Kimberly both took the opportunity to show off their skills with aplomb, while the eclectic mix of styles made for some fun spots throughout, and culminated in Skater pinning Silver after an International Incident.

In addition, Nikki Storm probably bit off ever so slightly more than she could chew against Amazing Kong, playing the cheap and sneaky heel role to perfection as usual but being physically overpowered in pretty much every way by Kong. Storm did her best to maintain an advantage, using her speed in her favour and pulling Kong’s hair, but in the end Kong was simply too much for her, taking the Scots firebrand out with an Implant Buster for the victory in a fun match, albeit one that was slightly too short and made the brilliant Storm look perhaps a little too weak for my liking.

Also, Portugal’s Shanna completed the extensive list of European talent on the card, taking on La Rosa Negra in a great, fast-paced winning effort which saw near-fall after near-fall in the final couple of minutes, leaving this viewer on the edge of his seat before culminating in a hard-hitting Dragon Suplex from Shanna to Rosa for the win, while Tracy Taylor (with pre-brainwash Su Yung accompanying her at ringside) picked up a fine win against Amber O’Neal in a solid match between two veterans, and assuring that Taylor’s night at least had some silver lining to it.

This was another great show from SHINE. The crowd were really into the matches, which is the opposite of how SHINE crowds usually sound, at least to me watching on iPPV – and it helped a ton, turning every match into a contest that you genuinely wanted to see happen. The stream was smooth all night long, save for a brief hiccup of about thirty seconds, and the matches all ranged from decent to superb. Booking-wise it’s fantastic to finally see Su Yung start getting the push she deserved, and for the different storylines to start intertwining. With Valkyrie seemingly now stronger than ever, Saraya Knight now acting both independently and alongside them and Su Yung caught up in the web, things are only going to get more exciting, especially now Serena has her title shot against Ivelisse. All in all, everything you want from a wrestling show – solid ring work, clever booking and storylines that leave you asking all the right questions. Bring on SHINE 19!

Total Divas Redux: ‘For Better or For Worse’

$
0
0

So after dealing with a peanut butter egg and Easter candy hangover like all day, my Sunday concluded with my regularly scheduled viewing of Total Divas. Although, to be totally honest, I kinda just wanted to watch Game of Thrones since it’s like my whole life.

But anyway, this week’s episode had it’s funny moments but a good portion of it was pretty somber. Eva Marie was dealt a big blow in terms of her future. Jimmy Uso had to deal with daddy issues leading up to his nuptials to Naomi. And to round things out, Natalya and TJ had a visit with a sex therapist to try and put some spice into their pretty vanilla lifestyle.

I’ll be honest, Nattie and TJ visiting with Dr. Milrod was a little much for me. Just when you think Nattie can’t be any more old fashioned, you find out that she doesn’t even know what doggie style is. Queen Brie Bella, bless her heart, promptly bends over a table at a restaurant to demonstrate what it looks like. This continues on until Cameron takes it upon herself to call Dr. Milrod, the sex therapist that helped her and Vinnie work through their issues, on behalf of Nattie.

Well Nattie is open-minded, which is good. She schedules an appointment with the Doc, and Dr. Milrod comes to their house. She gets the idea to sex proof the house and give the couple some roleplaying ideas. TJ, poor guy, isn’t as open to all of this as Natalya is, and is a little uncomfortable to say the least. Eventually he opens up and starts being adorable, talking about how their first time went. It was really cute.

Despite all that led up to it not being as perfect as it should have been, Naomi and Jimmy’s wedding was really gorgeous. First of all, who doesn’t want to get married in a tropical paradise? The location was just perfect. The only thing that put a damper on the festivities was the fact Jimmy’s father, Rikishi, wasn’t on hand to celebrate. Naomi was concerned that it was because she wasn’t Samoan, but father and son don’t have the best relationship anyway. It wasn’t a surprise when the big man didn’t show up but it was unfortunate because Jimmy was the first son to get married.

While in Hawaii, Jimmy and his twin brother, Jey, bonded. Jey let his twin know that despite the fact their father wasn’t there, he was. It was so cute!!! The wedding went off without a hitch and during the reception, Jimmy’s mom gave the sweetest speech ever. She welcomed Naomi to the family with open arms.

On the other side of the spectrum, Eva Marie spent the episode dealing with her health issues. After waking up one morning with a swollen and deformed stomach, Eva Marie was taken to the emergency room by Johnathan.

Come to find out, she had a pretty bad cyst on her ovary and it ruptured. That led to more problems for our favorite red head, including the fact that she may never be able to carry children. It was a pretty big blow to the couple, but Johnathan reassured Eva that things were going to be okay for them and when it came to time to try for kids in the future, they would go seek our advice and the opinions of different specialists.

Despite having a super supportive husband, Eva was still at a pretty low point. At Johnathan’s urging, she finally reached out to her estranged family. Her mother gave her a dose of tough love at first but Eva admitted she needed her parents and once they found out what was going on, they immediately rushed to Florida. They were able to reconnect and Eva’s dad was especially impressed with how well Johnathan had taken care of his baby girl.

Good episode, overall. Our hidden gems for the week are pretty awesome.

Dr. Milrod suggesting that Natalya place a banana for TJ in a forbidden spot on her body comes in at number five this week. I get that there’s a whole host of sexual things you can do with kitchen items but I don’t want to think about the superstars and divas of the WWE doing those sorts of things in their spare time.

Except for Dolph Ziggler, of course. But we all agree he needs to just do porn.

At number four this week is a delightful little quote from Daniel Bryan. It came during conversation at the restaurant when the girls found out that Nattie didn’t know what anal was. Nikki made the comment that she learned what doggie style was when herself and Brie watched two dogs do it when they were younger. Nikki remarked that it was like the two were stuck together. DB chimed in with this, “Are you saying to me that dog semen is like glue?”

Our third hidden gem this week involves Johnathan and Barry, Eva Marie’s dad. We know the history between all of them so when the two men shared a handshake and a hug towards the end of the episode it was a nice sign. Hopefully they can all be a happy family and I will say that I’m super glad those cranky brothers were left at home!

Number two this week is kind of disturbing and kind of adorable all at the same time. Apparently, Nattie and TJ did take some of the advice the good doctor gave them. They decided to have some fun and roleplaying. Nattie dressed up as an innocent little schoolgirl and TJ decided to be a home invader. I’m not sure what kind of kink it led too, but both of them looked smoking hot in their costumes!

And last, but not least, our number one gem of the week comes to us from Hawaii. Naomi’s father breaking down and sobbing when he saw his daughter in her wedding gown was the sweetest thing ever! Ohmygod, I have no problem admitting that I started crying once they focused on him.

That wraps us up for this week.
Next week’s episode looks super fun and I can’t wait! So until then, I’m going to keep overeating on Easter candy and complaining about my day job. Womp. Womp.

Namaste.
