On this day in history:
December 9th, 2001 | At Vengeance 2001, Women’s Champion Trish Stratus had her work cut out for her in her first Pay-Per-View title defense. Her opponent was Jacqueline who, true to her nature, pulled no punches. Trish took a beating but kept fighting, eventually winning the match with a backslide pin. The match would go a long way towards proving Trish’s toughness and legitimizing her first title reign.
That same night, Lita faced her own conflict: the feud between Matt and Jeff Hardy. She reluctantly served as the referee for their big blow-up match, calling it as fairly as she could. In the end, she counted a pin that gave Jeff the win, not noticing that Matt’s foot was on the bottom rope. In his jealous rage, Matt saw what was an honest mistake by Lita as an act of betrayal.
What are your memories of these moments?
